NewsSamsung Reveals Onyx Cinema LED Display at CinemaCon 2025

Samsung Electronics has once again demonstrated its leadership in cinema LED technology at CinemaCon 2025, the world’s most significant event for movie theater owners. Held in Las Vegas, Nevada, from March 31 to April 3, this gathering attracted nearly 6,000 industry professionals from over 80 countries, all eager to explore advancements in theater technology. Samsung took center stage by unveiling its latest Samsung Onyx cinema LED screen, which promises unparalleled picture quality, reliability, and scalability to meet the ever-evolving demands of theaters worldwide.

A New Era in Cinema with Samsung Onyx

At their immersive booth, Samsung showcased the transformative capabilities of the new Onyx screen, inviting theater owners and industry leaders to experience a variety of films, including the highly anticipated "Elio" (2025). The Onyx screen delivers a cinema experience like no other, with true black levels, an infinite contrast ratio, and exceptional color accuracy. These features enable vibrant and lifelike images that captivate audiences.

The Samsung Onyx is capable of supporting frames up to 4K 120Hz, ensuring ultra-smooth motion and razor-sharp detail that enhances every scene. Its peak brightness levels reach an impressive 300 nits (86.7fL), which is six times brighter than the traditional cinema standards. This means that even the brightest details remain visible to the audience, offering a viewing experience that traditional projectors, which often appear dim and washed-out in large theaters, cannot match.

Cynthia Lusk, Director of Creative Film Services and International Production at Pixar Studios, praised the Onyx, saying, “The color and vibrancy are very rich. On the Onyx display, there are details of the characters shown that I haven’t seen on a screen before.”

This year, Samsung Onyx is available in four standard sizes—5 meters (16 feet), 10 meters (33 feet), 14 meters (46 feet), and 20 meters (66 feet)—with additional flexible scaling options to suit various theater dimensions. Cannon Beach, a mixed-use development in Mesa, Arizona, will be the first location in the United States to introduce this latest generation of Samsung Onyx in its LVL 11 Entertainment movie theater.

Adam Saks, Chief Operating Officer of LVL 11 Entertainment, expressed enthusiasm about their partnership with Samsung, stating, “We chose to partner with Samsung because its commitment to innovation and cutting-edge technology aligns perfectly with our vision for LVL 11 Entertainment. By premiering the Samsung Onyx Cinema LED Screen in Arizona, we will be offering an entirely new experience, not just a movie.”

Revolutionizing Movie Promotions with Color E-Paper

In addition to the Onyx screen, Samsung also introduced new digital signage solutions to enhance the entire moviegoing experience. The Samsung Color E-Paper is a notable innovation. This ultra-low power, lightweight, and slim display can replace traditional analog and paper-based promotional materials. It offers high visibility and functionality, allowing theater owners to manage content remotely via a dedicated mobile app. This app facilitates scheduling, including wake-up and sleep times, ensuring seamless operation as theaters update displays to promote upcoming blockbusters.

Elevating Theater Ambiance with Cinematic Signage

Samsung’s QMD series brings a new level of immersion to theater lobbies with its 105-inch supersized screen. With a cinematic 21:9 ratio, the QMD captivates audiences before they even step into the auditorium, enhancing brand visibility and the overall theater environment. This series is designed to draw moviegoers’ attention with its vibrant display, ensuring an unforgettable experience.

Enhancing Menu Displays with Vivid Visuals

Samsung’s QMC signage is designed to capture the attention of moviegoers upon their arrival, with its ability to display one billion shades of color. This feature allows theaters to showcase their food and beverage offerings in a more engaging manner, enhancing the overall customer experience. The QMC’s slim profile makes it an ideal choice for optimizing space and seamlessly integrating with any theater environment.

Samsung’s Impact on Cinema Innovation

Samsung’s presence at CinemaCon 2025 reaffirms its commitment to pioneering excellence in cinema LED display technology. By pushing the boundaries of what is possible, Samsung is setting the stage for the future of cinema, much to the excitement of industry experts, theater owners, and studios alike. The innovative technologies on display at the event demonstrate how Samsung continues to lead the charge in cinematic innovation, offering a glimpse into the future of film viewing experiences.
