In a significant move towards leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for global development, NVIDIA has announced its participation in the U.S. government’s Partnership for Global Inclusivity on AI (PGIAI). This initiative will provide Deep Learning Institute training, GPU credits, and hardware and software grants to developing countries.

The announcement was made today in New York during the U.N. General Assembly by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The primary objective of this partnership is to utilize AI technology to drive sustainable development worldwide.

“Artificial Intelligence is driving the next industrial revolution, offering incredible potential to contribute meaningful progress on sustainable development goals,” stated Ned Finkle, Vice President of NVIDIA Government Affairs. “NVIDIA is committed to empowering communities to use AI to innovate through support for research, education and small and medium-sized enterprises.”

NVIDIA is collaborating with other tech giants including Amazon, Anthropic, Apple, Google, IBM, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI in this initiative.

Commitment to Sustainable Development

Participants in the PGIAI initiative have pledged to provide access to training, computing resources, and other AI tools to foster sustainable development and enhance quality of life in developing countries. The initiative emphasizes the importance of equitable AI, which requires an understanding and respect for the diverse cultures, languages, and traditions of the communities being served.

To that end, PGIAI members will focus on increasing access to AI models, APIs, compute credits, and other AI tools, as well as providing technical training and access to local datasets.

NVIDIA’s Contributions

As part of this partnership, NVIDIA will offer approximately $10 million worth of free training to universities and developers to support AI-driven local solutions and development goals. This training will be provided through the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute, which offers a wide range of courses on AI, deep learning, and accelerated computing.

Additionally, NVIDIA’s global Inception program, which supports nearly 5,000 start-ups in emerging economies, will offer technical expertise, go-to-market support, hardware and software discounts, and access to free cloud computing credits provided by NVIDIA partners.

In 2024 alone, the Inception program provided access to over $60 million worth of free cloud compute credits through its partners to start-ups in emerging economies. This support is crucial for enabling start-ups to develop and scale their AI solutions without the burden of high computational costs.

Importance of AI in Sustainable Development

AI has the potential to revolutionize various sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, education, and infrastructure, by providing innovative solutions to longstanding challenges. For instance, in healthcare, AI can be used to develop predictive models for disease outbreaks or to improve diagnostic accuracy. In agriculture, AI can optimize crop yields through precision farming techniques.

The PGIAI initiative aims to ensure that the benefits of AI are accessible to all, particularly in developing countries where access to advanced technology and resources is often limited. By providing training, computational resources, and support, the initiative seeks to empower local communities to harness the power of AI for their development needs.

Conclusion

The Partnership for Global Inclusivity on AI represents a significant step towards leveraging AI for global development. NVIDIA’s participation, along with other leading tech companies, underscores the importance of collaboration and inclusivity in advancing AI technology for the benefit of all.

Through initiatives like the NVIDIA Deep Learning Institute and the Inception program, NVIDIA is committed to supporting sustainable development goals by providing the necessary resources and training to empower communities worldwide.
