Greetings,

This year has been remarkably eventful for No Man’s Sky, featuring six significant updates, including the expansive Worlds Update. Our latest addition, The Cursed, was released just a couple of weeks ago, offering players a thrilling Halloween experience that has been met with enthusiasm.

In the realm of game development, certain features can be developed in weeks or months, while others may require years. Today, we are unveiling features that have been in the works for several years.

Cross-Save Support on All Platforms

Starting today, we are launching Cross-Save support across all platforms, including PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and others. This has been a monumental project and is among the most requested features by our community.

The ability to effortlessly switch between platforms is revolutionary. Players can enjoy the game from their couch on a console, continue their journey on a Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck while on the go, build an impressive base on a powerful PC, and experience the game in immersive Virtual Reality.

Implementing the transfer of saves between platforms through a server is particularly challenging for No Man’s Sky, due to the expanding number of supported platforms and the extensive playtime some players have invested. Both of these factors present a significant challenge for our small team.

It’s not uncommon for players to accumulate thousands of hours exploring, building elaborate bases, and cataloging discoveries, resulting in complex and detailed saves. Introducing Cross-Save for us is akin to moving house; the longer someone has lived there, the more intricate the move becomes. We also have players who initially played at launch eight years ago, now accessing their saves on platforms that didn’t even exist back then!

To manage these complexities, we have been gradually integrating the technology needed for this update over the past six months. We are now prepared to start rolling out Cross-Save to a select group of players. Starting today, all No Man’s Sky players can link their different accounts on the No Man’s Sky: Cross-Save website. A subset of these players will then be able to choose their saves from multiple devices via the in-game save screen. In the upcoming weeks, all players will be invited to participate.

The Normandy Returns

At Hello Games, we are all passionate sci-fi enthusiasts. One of our favorite series is the Mass Effect games. To celebrate Mass Effect’s annual N7 festivities, we are thrilled to bring back the legendary SSV Normandy SR1 to No Man’s Sky!

The Normandy first appeared in 2021 during one of our initial expeditions, culminating in players being able to add the Normandy to their fleet.

Since that event, we have welcomed a growing number of new players, including a new wave of Switch users and a significant increase in Chinese fans. Many of these newcomers have admired those who proudly display the Normandy in their frigate collection.

Mass Effect fans know the Normandy only appears when it is truly needed! Starting today, and for the next two weeks, as a love letter from one science fiction game to another, we are offering everyone another opportunity to encounter the Normandy in an enhanced version of the original mission and add it to their collection.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our partners at EA and Bioware for their assistance in making this possible.

This year has been monumental for No Man’s Sky in numerous ways. We are deeply grateful to continue this journey with each of you.
