Today marks the launch of Meta’s second annual Responsible Business Practices Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the company’s progress in addressing social and environmental priorities. The report also outlines Meta’s efforts to create sustainable value for its customers, employees, investors, and other stakeholders.
Meta structures its responsible business strategy around key pillars that enable sustainable impact: operating transparently and sustainably, building responsibly, and empowering its people and partners. The 2023 Responsible Business Practices Report details the advancements made in these areas.
This year’s report was crafted in alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards and was informed by the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB), Internet and Media Services Industry Standards, the United Nations Global Compact, and the Task Force for Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD).
Unlocking Potential for Good
Emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the metaverse are central to Meta’s long-term vision. In 2023, these technological avenues began to converge, resulting in new products, apps, and services that bring the metaverse closer to reality. The report sheds light on Meta’s commitment to developing these and other technologies responsibly, openly, and transparently, with a focus on open-source innovation.
In 2023, Meta made significant progress toward its goal of building general intelligence accessible to all by launching Llama, a collection of open-source large language models (LLMs). These models have been downloaded over 170 million times since their release, demonstrating the broad interest and potential for AI to benefit individuals globally.
