Leveraging AWS for Insightful Supply Chain Data Analysis

NewsLeveraging AWS for Insightful Supply Chain Data Analysis

Today, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has officially launched a new feature called AWS Supply Chain Analytics, which is powered by Amazon QuickSight. This tool is designed to empower businesses by providing the ability to create customized report dashboards using data from AWS Supply Chain. This feature is particularly beneficial for business analysts and supply chain managers, who can now conduct personalized analyses, visualize data, and derive actionable insights to enhance their supply chain management operations.

Introduction to AWS Supply Chain Analytics

AWS Supply Chain Analytics is a robust tool that utilizes data stored in the AWS Supply Chain data lake. It incorporates Amazon QuickSight’s embedded authoring tools directly into the AWS Supply Chain user interface. This integration offers a seamless and customizable experience for generating insights, metrics, and key performance indicators (KPIs) pertinent to your operational analytics needs.

Additionally, AWS Supply Chain Analytics comes with a set of prebuilt dashboards that can be used as they are or customized to fit specific requirements. At the time of launch, the available prebuilt dashboards include:

Key Prebuilt Dashboards

  1. Plan-Over-Plan Variance: This dashboard provides a comparison between two demand plans, highlighting variances in both units and values across critical dimensions such as product, location, and time frames.
  2. Seasonality Analytics: This dashboard offers a year-over-year perspective of demand, showcasing trends in average demand quantities and highlighting seasonal patterns via heatmaps on a monthly and weekly basis.

Getting Started with AWS Supply Chain Analytics

To begin utilizing AWS Supply Chain Analytics, the first step is to enable it within your AWS environment. This can be done by navigating to the Settings menu, selecting Organizations, and then choosing Analytics. Here, you can enable data access for analytics purposes.

Once enabled, you have the option to either edit existing roles or create a new role with analytics access. For detailed guidance on user permission roles, you can refer to the AWS documentation.

After enabling the feature, you can access AWS Supply Chain Analytics by logging into AWS Supply Chain and selecting either the Connecting to Analytics card or the Analytics option from the left navigation menu.

    Utilizing Amazon QuickSight Interface

Within the AWS Supply Chain interface, you will find an embedded Amazon QuickSight tool ready for use. To get started, navigate to the Prebuilt Dashboards section, where you can select the dashboards relevant to your supply chain functions.

The prebuilt dashboards are particularly user-friendly, allowing you to quickly get started with all necessary datasets and analyses prepared for you. Simply select Add to begin the process.

    Building and Sharing Dashboards

Once you’ve set up your dashboard, you can view the results on the dashboard page. An additional feature is the ability to share these dashboards with your team, facilitating enhanced collaboration.

If you require additional datasets to build a custom dashboard, you can create new datasets by navigating to the Datasets section and selecting New dataset. The AWS Supply Chain data lake serves as an existing dataset for you to utilize.

    Creating Custom Datasets

To create a custom dataset, select Create dataset and choose the necessary tables to include in your analysis. In the Data section, you will find all available fields. Data sets prefixed with "asc_" are generated by AWS Supply Chain, covering areas such as Demand Planning, Insights, Supply Planning, and more.

For users who have yet to ingest data into the AWS Supply Chain Data Lake, it’s important to do so before using AWS Supply Chain Analytics. For guidance on data ingestion, please refer to the AWS documentation page.

    Starting Your Analysis

With all datasets in place, you can commence your analysis, taking full advantage of AWS Supply Chain Analytics’ capabilities to transform and optimize your supply chain operations.
