Today marks a significant milestone with the first-ever Google.org Impact Summit in Sunnyvale, California. The event will see the Google.org team outline plans for deeper investments in three critical areas: Knowledge, Skills and Learning; Scientific Advancement; and Resilient Communities. AI in Education

The power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in educational settings is becoming increasingly apparent. A prime example is the AI-based program developed by John Jay College and DataKind, aimed at identifying students at risk of dropping out. This initiative allowed advisors to provide proactive support, resulting in a 32% increase in senior graduation rates. Google.org is committing an additional $8 million and a Google.org Fellowship to help DataKind extend this solution to 100 more colleges across the U.S.

Furthermore, Google.org will contribute an additional $12 million through the end of 2024 to organizations transforming education responsibly through AI. This funding will help scale AI training for educators and provide digital skills and computing education pathways to students worldwide.

Google.org continues to support organizations and programs that address community challenges such as hunger, housing, and access to public benefits. A notable project is the collaboration with the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind on the Experience AI program. This initiative provides teachers with resources to educate and inspire 11- to 14-year-olds about AI. Since its launch in April 2023, the program has reached educators in 130 countries, offering a structured learning journey that emphasizes ethics through real-world examples and culturally relevant content.

With a new $10 million commitment from Google.org, the Raspberry Pi Foundation aims to expand the Experience AI program to more than 2 million young people across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. This initiative will help young people become forward-thinking, responsible, and safe users of AI.

A recent Google.org survey of thousands of nonprofits revealed that four in five organizations believe generative AI could be applicable to their work, but nearly half are not currently using the technology.
