nstagram has recently enhanced its Direct Messages (DMs) by introducing live location sharing and customizable nicknames, aiming to improve user interaction and safety.
Live Location Sharing
Users can now share their real-time location with friends directly through DMs for up to one hour. This feature is particularly useful for coordinating meet-ups at events or gatherings. It is initially available in select countries and can be activated or deactivated within individual or group chats.
Customizable Nicknames
In addition to location sharing, Instagram has introduced the ability to assign nicknames to oneself and friends within DMs. This feature allows users to personalize their conversations and can be locked to prevent unwanted name changes.
These updates are part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enhance the direct messaging experience, reflecting a shift in user behavior towards increased messaging. The company is also testing a new placement for the chat icon, positioning it more prominently at the bottom center of the app.
