Game Overview
In Death Note Killer Within, players have the option to take on one of four distinct roles: Kira, Kira Follower, L, or the Investigator. Each player selects their preferred role at the start, but the game’s system assigns the final roles based on availability. The players are divided into two teams: Team Kira and Kira Followers, whose main objective is to eliminate L, and Team L along with the Investigators, aiming to apprehend Kira.
The game advances through two primary phases. The first is the Action Phase, wherein players can gather clues and complete specific tasks. This is followed by the Meeting Phase, where players convene to discuss their findings and attempt to arrest Kira based on observed suspicious behaviors during the Action Phase.
Victory conditions vary depending on the phase. If L is eliminated during the Action Phase, Team Kira claims victory. Conversely, if Kira is arrested during the Meeting Phase, the Death Note is disposed of, granting Team L the win. Players can also contribute to their team’s Progress gauge during the Action Phase by completing various objectives. The first team to maximize their Progress gauge wins the game.
Player Roles
Kira
As Kira, you begin the game in possession of the Death Note. Your task is to use it to eliminate both non-player characters (NPCs) and other players. However, to target a player, you must first acquire their ID, which reveals their real name. This requires you to stay in proximity to your target for a short duration. Be cautious, though, as acting too suspiciously could lead to questioning during the Meeting Phase.
Kira Follower
As a Kira Follower, your mission is to surreptitiously gather Investigators’ IDs and collaborate with Kira. This is facilitated through private communication using a Transceiver. Furthermore, the Death Note can be transferred between Kira and a Kira Follower, allowing the Follower to become the new Kira if necessary. Timing the transfer correctly can deceive other players and shift the game’s dynamics.
Investigator
Investigators play a crucial role in identifying the true Kira by collecting evidence to support their deductions. Be wary of players who get too close, as they might be Kira or a Kira Follower attempting to steal your ID. Investigators can also engage with NPCs to obtain testimonials, which provide valuable insights into Kira’s identity.
L
If you assume the role of L, your capabilities surpass those of regular Investigators. You possess special actions that allow you to gather critical information during the Action Phase, such as instructing other players to investigate or setting up surveillance cameras. L also plays a pivotal role in steering discussions during the Meeting Phase to pinpoint suspicious players. Utilizing your special actions strategically can bring you closer to uncovering the truth and arresting Kira.
