Lenovo Achieves AA Score in 2024 Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index

On September 16, 2024, Lenovo proudly announced that it has retained its AA score in the 2024 Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index (HSSUS). Among 550 companies listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, Lenovo has emerged as the leader in the IT industry for its significant environmental achievements. This accolade is further endorsed by CDP, which has acknowledged Lenovo’s leadership in climate change and supplier engagement.

The Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index is formulated based on a comprehensive process that incorporates the outcomes of a sustainability assessment conducted by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA). HKQAA, an autonomous and professional assessment body, utilizes its proprietary sustainability assessment and rating framework to evaluate companies.

Key Evaluation Metrics

HSSUS evaluates a company’s performance across seven key areas within the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) categories:

  • Corporate Governance
  • Human Rights
  • Labour Practices
  • The Environment
  • Fair Operating Practices
  • Consumer Issues
  • Community Involvement and Development

Every year, the methodology behind the sustainability assessment is reviewed to incorporate advancements in the evolving ESG landscape. This review takes into account both international and local standards. The framework is designed to capture both general and industry-specific criteria across the core aspects of ESG, with each aspect rated equally as a base. Additional industry-specific materiality factors are also considered.

Lenovo’s Commitment to Sustainability

Lenovo’s inclusion in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index underscores the company’s long-term commitment to fostering a more sustainable future. Lenovo is on track to meet its 2030 emissions reduction targets and is part of the first group of companies to have its net-zero by 2050 targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative’s Net-Zero Standard.

Furthermore, Lenovo is consistently increasing its efforts in the circular economy. The company is enhancing the use of sustainable materials and improving recycling and disposal of assets. Since 2017, Lenovo has recycled or reused over 94,000 metric tons of products through its Product End-of-Life Management (PELM) programs, equivalent to the weight of 87 million ThinkPads.

Additionally, Lenovo is committed to sharing its advanced technology with communities worldwide. Since 2022, the company has invested over $50 million in global communities. With a focus on “Smarter AI for All,” Lenovo has established a Responsible AI Committee to ensure that its innovations adhere to principles that promote responsible, ethical, and safe development, deployment, and utilization of AI.
